Narrow Gate: Summer Internship with Open Hearts in Nicaragua

Every summer we do an internship called Narrow Gate for those who are interested in coming down and serving for an extended period of time.  The internship is focused on Learning, Serving & Living in Community.

Learning:  We will spend a portion of our time studying the things of God together.  This will be integrated into the time spend in the ministry settings, but will also include times designated for personal study.  Having time “away from life” to be able to focus on studying the things of God is so beautiful and fruitful.  So we intentionally make this part of the internship.  Discussion times over dinner or coffee make for a great times of deepening our faith as well.

Serving:  Open Hearts Ministries has a large footprint here in Nicaragua.  In interning you will be spending your time at different ministry locations.  There will be an emphasis on serving, so whether it be in La Chureca at Club Esperanza, out in Los Brasiles at the Imagine Ministry Center, in Los Cedros at Colegio Havilah, at the rescue homes of Casa Robles or Casa Havilah, or out at Ruby Ranch.  There will be opportunity to serve the Lord at these specific ministry locations.  There will also be “solo journeys” during the summer where you will live on location.  Serving is a foundation of missionary living.

Living in Community:  As Christians we are called to be in this world serving the Lord.  We do this together and because all of us are different, an emphasis on living in community is so important.  In prayer times, discussion times, working together, sweating together, getting frustrated, taking exciting trips around Nicaragua….in all of life down here the Lord develops our character which allows us to live better in community and be a blessing in whatever we are doing.
