Open Hearts International Children's Relief Mission
We have sad news to share from Nicaragua, this past Saturday our beloved Gigi went to be with the Lord. Earlier this year we celebrated her 94th birthday and only a couple weeks ago she was celebrating Aliyah’s 19th birthday with family and friends. Though her death was sudden and caught us a little by surprise we are so very thankful she did not have a long suffering bout with illness. God’s grace is so beautiful and her life was a constant testament of what God is doing. She loved Jesus and being a part of God’s Kingdom work here on Earth, now she is with her beloved Jesus. We are surely going to miss her.
Gigi moved to Nicaragua over fifteen years ago, she built her little house here at Quinta Havilah which many of you have visited over the years I am sure. She loved to talk to anyone who visited and share stories, which were grand! She would also love to ask about our lives and what God was doing all around the world. She was been a constant presence in our children’s lives, celebrating every birthday with laughter and a special birthday card with some money in it. She never missed a party if there was one going on, and she always looked beautiful. The kids would have ice cream on her porch and help her make one of her special cakes. When the cousins were in town just recently she gathered some of them near her and told them “when Gigi dies you all don’t need to be sad, I am going to be with Jesus and I will get to see my mom and dad again.” She was just so sweet to know how when this day came, they would all be wondering and be sad thinking about their great grandmother.
Her caring wasn’t spared only on the children, she included all of the adults in her life both young and old. Every single birthday we received a hand written birthday card with a personal note that was always incredibly encouraging. Gigi was so great like that, even if her house was on fire or she needed you to do something for her….when she first saw you she would say something encouraging like “oh look how handsome you are” or “wow you are so beautiful” or “you are the best!” It may have been followed by a firm instruction of what she needed…but she would always laugh as she told you. Her encouraging words and her hand written letters are a treasure to all of us and will be so missed.
The funnest memory we all share is of Gigi screaming loudly when she would see you for the first time in a while, or when you would come into town. Her scream was so full of excitement and joy and happiness and love…and you could hear it from blocks away! It was a one-of-a-kind. Gigi was one of a kind! We laughed the other evening thinking how the Lord must have welcomed her into heaven with a loud loving scream, an embrace and a giant smile. It is a fitting image. Gigi brought a grandness to our lives, lots of laughter and stories. We are going to miss her dearly.
Please be in prayer for our family as we all gather together. Family has already made it in to town or on their way. We will be celebrating her life this coming weekend together. We are very thankful to be covered with prayers in times like these. We love you friends.

I am so sorry for your loss and I know you will miss her dearly. What a blessing that she had 15 years in Nica with you all. Praying for you all and rejoicing that she loved the Lord and her family so much. She is praising Him in heaven now and I’m sure she’s having some good conversations with Him.
In fond remembrance of her.
Blessings!
