Open Hearts International Children's Relief Mission
You may not be able to tell, but this photograph is not in Nicaragua! LOL! Early this fall, actually, more like the end of the summer we made a visit home to the United States and were blessed to be able to explore some of the most beautiful and historical parts of the country. When Krista and I finished seminary over twenty years ago and drove across the country from San Francisco to Miami, Krista was seven months pregnant with Aliyah. What were we thinking…who takes a road trip that late in pregnancy?!?! We were young and did crazy things! We have so many awesome memories driving our old mini van full of stuff, but one of the best memories was deciding to stop by Mt. Rushmore. It was just so cool to see, I know it seems simple and goofy…but it was incredible to see mountains with giant details sculptured into them! We were so excited to take our kids to see Mt. Rushmore trip….Aliyah for the second time!
What this trip was more than anything was an adventure into wide open beautiful spaces and spending time with great friends on their side of the world. We had the best time breathing in God’s beautiful clean air. So many times we thought to ourselves “where are we!?” Sunset hikes, visits to Glacier National Park, boat rides, dinners out, rodeos, golf adventures, tubing, cliff jumping, epic views, ebikes, jet skis, crystal clear mountain lakes, etc etc etc it was so blessed. Then, great times in conversations filled with encouragement about the things God is doing in our lives. Wether we were in living rooms, at dinner tables, around a bon fire or on a random walk…God encouraged us and recharged us on this adventure. We are so thankful!
On top of it all, the best part of any trips home is to spend time with our family in the states. We had so much fun that I forgot to take many pictures. But visiting with Mema in Miami, The Rahals and Grandpa and Gramma Losi in Vero Beach, spending time with Pop Pop, and crashing our whole gang into the McDonalds house was amazing! The greatest sleep overs ever LOL! We count it a giant blessing to be able to visit home from the Missions field. We returned home to Nicaragua filled with life. Thank you, Jesus!
We also want to shre some updates on how we are all doing. God is good and we feel His hand over us pressing us forward into His great things here in Nicaragua. There are always new things in store but also being able to keep Club Esperanza, the work on the Rio Coco in Walakitang, the rescue homes and all other ministries in good operation has been Krista and I’s main focus. Our kiddos are all doing very well. You may notice in the photo above that Aliyah had to join us via video chat for Mason’s 17th birthday. She moved up to North Carolina this fall with her Aunt and Uncle and is doing Tallahassee State College online while she works part time. She is doing great and learning the ropes of living in America for a time, we are so thankful to the Murrays! The future is all out in front of Aliyah and we appreciate your prayers for her! She keeps up a creative Instagram page called Oh Happy Dei if you want to give it a follow.
Mason is cruising through his Junior year of high school. He took the PSAT this fall and is enjoying a solid soccer season with this Varsity team mates at Nicaraguan Christian Academy. Some of his close friends developed a young men’s Bible study called Monday Night Men’s and that has been a great time for Mason growing in the Lord and having a community of young brothers in the Lord doing life together. Finding part time jobs is almost impossible here in Nicaragua but he has found a job here and there with Papa and helps Uncle Chris keep the pool up and running here at Quinta Havilah. If you have visited on a mission trip you know how important that job is! It really is a huge blessing on hot and sweaty days.
Isabella and Juliette are both doing very well in life as well. School is the main thing at the moment and they are both excelling. Bella is in her Freshman year and one thing that is true about this young lady is she loves to read…she doesn’t want anything to do with these Kindle books either. She wants the real thing, real actual books on her shelf…at least the ones she likes. We may have single handedly kept Barnes & Nobles in business when we were home in Miami! Bella is also having a great year with her soccer team, she scored a goal in one of their tournament games which was a first for her! We celebrated her 15th birthday this month with a little quincinera fiesta on Gramma’s porch. Juliette has joined Isabella on the soccer field this year and she notched an assist in their last game of the season coming on as a substitute. She keeps our life beautiful by occasionally filling the kitchen with flowers she collects around Quinta Havilah. Juju is working hard at school and that is a double task because being the youngest mom and dad may be slacking a little hahaha. But our baby girl loves life and she keeps us all in order.
Thank you for catching up with our family. We are blessed by your prayers and support. We are able to be in Nicaragua because of your generous support. If you would like to give to support us this year you can find the information here on this link. Please consider becoming a monthly donor as that consistent support is really helpful.
The Holidays are upon us, and down here it is also the end of the school year. So, we look forward to some great parties and gatherings ahead. We pray and hope that you all have a blessed Holiday season!
